About the Federal University Wukari (FUWUKARI )

Federal University Wukari (FUWUKARI) was established in 2011 by the Nigerian government under President Goodluck Jonathan as one of the nine new universities. Located in Wukari, Taraba State, the university began by taking over the facilities of Wukari Campus of Taraba State Polytechnic. In 2012, Professor Geoffrey Okogbaa was the pioneer Vice-Chancellor till 2016. During his tenure, the university laid the foundation and started running academic programmes.

In March 2016, Professor Abubakar Musa Kundiri was appointed as the second Vice-Chancellor. Under his leadership, FUWUKARI witnessed tremendous growth. By January 2020, the university got full accreditation for all 27 undergraduate programmes in its three faculties: Agriculture and Life Sciences; Humanities, Management and Social Sciences; and Pure and Applied Sciences. Professor Kundiri also initiated many infrastructural projects including construction of faculty buildings, lecture theatres and students hostels. But in July 2019, the university was shut down temporarily due to Jukun/Tiv ethnic crisis that affected students and staff.

In January 2021, Professor Jude Rabo a veteran in veterinary medicine became the Vice-Chancellor. His tenure has been marked by development and expansion. On 26th September 2022, the federal government approved the establishment of Federal University Teaching Hospital Wukari, enhancing the university’s medical training. By 16th March 2024, FUWUKARI celebrated its 6th and 7th combined convocation, a sign that the university is growing. Later in 2024, on 24th July, the university held its 13th matriculation, welcoming over 3,000 new students into its programmes.

Throughout its existence, FUWUKARI has shown resilience and commitment to quality education, evolving to meet the needs of its students and the society.
