About the Kwara State Polytechnic (KWARA-POLY)

Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin was established in 1973 by then Military Governor Colonel David Bamigboye.

The idea was first proposed in 1970 during a visit by Head of State General Yakubu Gowon who suggested upgrading the Government Technical Training College to a full College of Technology to boost economic development and provide technical education in Kwara State.

The institution started in January 1973 with 110 students. It offers National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in various disciplines including applied sciences, engineering, management and commerce. The Polytechnic mission is to impart knowledge and foster intellectual development through scientific research and innovation.

The first rector of the school was Professor R.W.H. Wright (1973-1976). He was succeeded by Chief Zacchaeus Olorunfemi Mowaiye (1976-1978), Dr. J.O. Amode (1978-1982) and Dr. Samuel Adeyemi Oladosu (1990-1997).

In October 2019, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed was appointed as the rector with a PhD in Metallurgical and Material Science from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

For prospective students, the Polytechnic offers admission into various programmes. The application usually commences in the first half of the year.
