About the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA)
Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) was established in 1981 to fast track Nigeria’s technological development. Over the years, it has become one of the best universities in Nigeria, with more than 8 schools and over 50 departments.
FUTA has had several impressive Vice-Chancellors who have shaped the university. In August 2024, the university celebrated its Foundation Day with a lecture by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim who urged Nigerian universities to address the issue of abandoned mega projects.
The university has a wonderful staff, Professor Joseph Adeyemi delivered the 171st inaugural lecture in August 2024 and emphasized the need to control synthetic chemical use in agriculture.
FUTA alumni have made impacts globally. Temidayo Isaiah Oniosun, a space scientist and entrepreneur founded Space in Africa and was listed in Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 in 2021.
Another alumnus, Tolu Akinyemi is a renowned writer and poet known for his relatable content and humor.
In August 2024, the university got the award for the best Department of Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria from the Town Planning Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC).
