About the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic (ELECHI-AMADI-POLY)
Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria has a rich history of milestone achievements. It was established in 1977 as School of Basic Studies offering HSC and A-level General Certificate of Education (GCE) programs. The institution prepared students for higher education.
In 1992 it was converted to Rivers State College of Arts and Science and added diploma and certificate programs. More students had access to quality education in various fields. The institution continued to grow and got accredited by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in 2006 for National Diploma in Accountancy, Statistics and Computer Science. This was a big step to making it a polytechnic.
By 2011 the institution received boost with an E-Library donated by Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) and a N100 million grant from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to enhance infrastructure. In 2014 the institution hosted its first convocation ceremony celebrating students of the past 21 years.
A big milestone was attained on July 4, 2016 when the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike signed a bill renaming the institution to Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic. This was in honor of Captain Elechi Amadi a Nigerian writer and educator. Since then the polytechnic has continued to grow and is offering quality technical and vocational education to students all over Nigeria.
