About the Benue State Polytechnic (BEN-POLY)
BEN-POLY operates as a government-run institution in Ugbokolo which belongs to Benue State in Nigeria.
Colonel Abdullahi Shelleng founded BEN-POLY as a new institution during 1977 when he served as Benue State military governor.
Murtala College of Arts Science and Technology began its operations in 1977 under the name before officials renamed it to be the Benue State Polytechnic.
The establishment began its educational operations in February 1977 as the foundation program welcomed 250 students for university admission.
During its 1977/1978 academic year the institution launched Ordinary and Higher National Diploma (ND and HND) programs which welcomed 143 students to study in Agriculture, Accountancy, Business Administration, Fine and Applied Arts, and Marketing.
During 1981 the institution of higher learning shifted its operations from Makurdi to Ugbokolo. The institution maintained two separate sites prior to that time where science and technology courses ran out of Makurdi and business and arts-related courses operated from Ugbokolo.
The institution achieved full consolidation of its operations by 1988 when it moved all its programs to its Ugbokolo campus.
Through an amendment made by Governor Aper Aku on October 3, 1983 the institution received its new name Benue State Polytechnic. This marked a new phase in its academic and structural development.
The present-day polytechnic includes four educational units under its umbrella: Business and Management Studies, Engineering Technology, Environmental Studies and Technology.
Through its wide range of programs the institution teaches applied competencies to students for industrial applications. Students who plan to study at this institution need to monitor admission deadlines because they can find official updates on their website.
