Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic (Akwa Ibom Poly) has its own admission requirements for students who want to study in the school. Whether you are applying through UTME or Direct Entry, you must meet the requirements.

To be eligible for National Diploma (ND) programmes, you need at least 5 credits in your SSCE, GCE or NECO.

These credits must include English Language and Mathematics, and 3 other subjects related to your course.

You can combine results but not more than 2 sittings.

Sitting for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is also mandatory. Applicants must choose Akwa Ibom Polytechnic as their institution of choice and meet the JAMB cut-off mark. After UTME, the school will conduct a screening exercise which is compulsory for all candidates. This screening will be based on your UTME score and O’Level results.

About the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic (AKWA IBOM POLY)

Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic located in Ikot Osurua, Ikot Ekpene was established on 1st December, 1991 by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Edict No. 2 of 1991. The institution was officially commissioned on 24th January, 1992 and started with 961 students in 15 programs including Science, Environmental Studies, Communication Arts and Engineering.

Over the years the polytechnic has expanded its academic programs. Currently it has several schools: Applied Sciences, Business and Management, Communication Arts, Engineering, Environmental Studies and Preliminary Studies. Each school has various departments such as Computer Science, Accountancy, Mass Communication, Civil Engineering and Architecture.

The mission of the institution is to produce middle-level manpower for the state, the country and the global society. Its vision is to be a center of excellence and an institution of choice among tertiary education institutions in Nigeria.

In terms of accreditation, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has fully accredited 15 programs at National Diploma (ND) level and 7 at Higher National Diploma (HND) level. To accommodate more students and provide flexible learning option, the Polytechnic’s Governing Council approved the establishment of part-time/evening programs in all NBTE approved courses from 2006/2007 academic session.
