About the Olusegun Agagu University of Science & Technology (OAUSTECH)
February 20, 2007 the Ondo State Government set up a committee headed by Professor A. A. Ilemobade to look into establishing a university in the state’s Southern Senatorial District.
The committee submitted its report on May 22, 2007 and recommended Okitipupa as the location of the university to boost industrial and technological development. After this, Governor Dr. Olusegun Agagu sent a bill to the State House of Assembly which was passed into law on April 27, 2007 and established Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH).
The first Governing Council was inaugurated on March 6, 2008 with Professor Akinbo Adesomoju as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman. He later became the pioneer Vice-Chancellor and Vice-Admiral Akin Aduwo took over as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Construction started on October 7, 2008 with a foundation laying ceremony by Governor Agagu. However, political change saw Dr. Olusegun Mimiko become Governor and dissolved the first Governing Council.
In February 2009, Governor Mimiko set up a committee under Professor Israel O. Oladapo to review higher education in the state. This led to the inauguration of the second Governing Council on September 27, 2010 with Professor Funso Akere as Pro-Chancellor and Professor Tolu Odugbemi as Vice-Chancellor.
Their efforts led to the National Universities Commission (NUC) restoring the university’s license after a NUC team visited the institution between November 8 and 10, 2010. Academic activities started with the first student matriculation on March 3, 2011.
By February 27, 2014 the second Governing Council had ended its tenure. After a period of crisis, Professor Adegoke Adegbite was appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor on September 28, 2015 and the third Governing Council headed by Dr. Amos Akingba was inaugurated.
A leadership change in February 2017 ended the term of that council.February 22, 2017 Professor Sunday Roberts Ogunduyile was appointed as the third substantive Vice-Chancellor. The fourth Governing Council was inaugurated on March 5, 2018 with Professor Akinbo Adesomoju as Pro-Chancellor.
In 2019 the university was renamed Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in honour of its founder. December 17, 2021 Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu appointed Professor Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor effective February 23, 2022.
Since its inception OAUSTECH has expanded its academic programmes, introducing new faculties and centres to meet the changing educational needs of Ondo State and Nigeria.
