About the Kwara State University (KWASU)
Kwara State University (KWASU) is a place where learning goes beyond the classroom. Located in Malete, Kwara State, it was established in 2009 to bring modern education to students.
The journey of KWASU began on July 11, 2007 when Governor Bukola Saraki set up a planning committee. By December 24, 2008 the law to establish the university was signed.
On February 9, 2009 the National Universities Commission (NUC) gave the final approval and before the end of the year, students were welcomed. Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah was the first Vice-Chancellor and he led the university with a vision of innovation and excellence.
KWASU was the first Nigerian university to make community service a requirement for graduation, so students give back to the society.
Over the years, it introduced new programmes and built strong research centre, collaborated with international institutions. In 2019 Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi took over as Vice-Chancellor and took the university further. His sudden passing in 2022 led to Professor Shaykh Luqman Jimoh becoming the Acting Vice-Chancellor.
Today KWASU is one of Nigeria’s fastest growing university, expanding programmes, improving facilities and committed to producing future leaders. Whether you want to be a scientist, entrepreneur or researcher KWASU is the foundation to make it happen.
