Borno State University (BOSU) does not have Veterinary Medicine program. But they have Microbiology B.Sc. To be eligible for this program, you must have at least 5 O’Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in not more than 2 sittings. Also, you must meet the university’s cut-off mark in UTME and choose BOSU as your first choice during UTME registration.
For Theatre Arts, BOSU does not have the program. But if you are interested in arts related programs, you can consider English and Literary Studies or Islamic Studies which are available in the Faculty of Arts and Education.
For software development, while BOSU does not have software development program, they have B.Sc. in Computer Science. This program covers programming, algorithms and system design which are foundational to software development. You will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue opportunities in software industry upon graduation.
Borno State University has programs across various faculties including Microbiology and Computer Science. Veterinary Medicine and Theatre Arts are not available but you have options to explore your academic interests within the university’s programs.

About the Borno State University (BOSU)
Borno State University (BOSU), located in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria was established in 2016 to provide quality education and address the educational needs of the region. The idea of the university was conceived during Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s administration and was actualized by Governor Kashim Shettima who signed the bill into law in 2012. NUC approved BOSU’s operations in 2016.
In March 2019, Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe was appointed as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor. Under his leadership, the university inaugurated its Senate building in June 2021 with former President Muhammadu Buhari as the guest of honour.
BOSU has five faculties: Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, Arts and Education, Agriculture and College of Medical and Health Sciences. In the 2022/2023 academic session, the university added Medicine, Radiography, Nursing, Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Science and Health Information Systems to its programmes. This led to the matriculation of the first set of medical students in April 2024.
In October 2024, Professor Babagana Gutti from the University of Maiduguri’s Department of Chemical Engineering was appointed as the substantive Vice-Chancellor.
Shortly after, in January 2025, Governor Babagana Zulum approved the renaming of the institution to Kashim Ibrahim University in honour of Sir Kashim Ibrahim, the first Governor of Northern Nigeria.
As of February 2025, BOSU has over 37 programmes across its faculties and over 9,000 students. The university is committed to providing excellent education and research to develop Borno State and Nigeria at large.
