Established in 2000 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this esteemed scholarship programme offers 80 full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK.

Each year, approximately two-thirds of these awards are offered to PhD students, with the remaining awards available for Master’s and other postgraduate courses.

What does the scholarship cover?

• Full cost of studying at Cambridge
• Additional discretionary funding for:
• Academic development
• Dependent children
• Fieldwork
• Maternity/Paternity leave
• Hardship

Who is eligible?

• Citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom
• Applying for a PhD, MLitt, or one-year postgraduate course at the University of Cambridge

How to apply for Cambridge Scholarship Programme 2025/2026

1. Submit your application for admission and funding via the University’s Graduate Application Portal at www.gatescambridge.org/apply/how-to-apply/
2. Complete the section to apply for admission to a course and a College place
3. Complete the Gates Cambridge part of the funding section

Deadlines:

• US citizens resident in the USA: Wednesday, 16 October 2024
• All other eligible applicants: Dependent on your course – either 3 December 2024 or 7 January 2025
