About the Igbajo Polytechnic
Igbajo Polytechnic, Nigeria’s first community owned institution was established in May 2005. The idea started in 2004 when the Igbajo community came together to build a higher institution. By 2008 academic activities had started, a big milestone. In 2015 the polytechnic mobilized its students for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. By 2022 Igbajo Polytechnic was ranked 18th among all Nigerian polytechnics by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Over the years the institution has expanded its academic programmes. As of 2022 it has over 15 accredited programmes across National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels. In 2018 the polytechnic management applied to the National Universities Commission (NUC) to upgrade the institution to a degree awarding university. This was to introduce faculties such as Social Sciences, Humanities, Administration, Engineering and Science.
The Igbajo community has been instrumental to the polytechnic’s growth. In 2022 the community efforts led to the construction of a 500 seater auditorium and a health centre. These development has increased the institution’s infrastructure and provide students with better learning environment.
As of 2024 Igbajo Polytechnic is still growing, with 17 NBTE and JAMB accredited courses. The institution has over 5,000 students with a 98% mobilization rate for the NYSC. This is a testament to the polytechnic’s commitment to quality education and its impact on the community and beyond.
