Why Using an Online Degree Directory is Beneficial

The Internet is flooded with information about online schools, which is exactly why you need a good online degree directory. You're likely to see ads for degrees online, student comments about schools, rankings for specific programs, and news articles about online degrees. It can be frustrating to sift through all the information to learn about schools as an interested future student, and you'll probably find yourself wishing you had a high-level, nicely organized lists of schools and programs to help you quickly narrow down your options. If you're at the online school exploration stage and need to see all of your choices side by side, an online directory will be a beneficial tool for you as you embark on your higher education journey.

Good directories will list schools for you in a variety of ways. Most will have a comprehensive alphabetical master list by school name, so you can see each and every school out there in one look. Degree directories will break down the schools further for you, to make searching easier. Some will hyperlink the name of each program, such as "MBA", and take you to a page with all of the accredited MBA online programs. You might also see more general groups, such as "Online Health Care Programs", which is useful if you know the field you're interested in, but haven't decided on an exact career yet. A general grouping allows you to see programs you might not have been aware of, such as "Radiologist Technician". Some online directories will also break down their listings by the type of degree, such as all programs that earn an Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, Master Degree, and PhD Degree. You might also find listings showing which schools are fully online, and which offer hybrid distance and in-person courses. An online degree directory might also have user ratings or reviews next to each program, which also helps you narrow down your choices based on student feedback. You might also find directory sites that list the popularity or success of each program, such as "Top 10 Online Schools for Graphic Design" or "Best Schools for Busy Professionals."

Some directory sites go a step further and give you supplemental articles about each career, or the latest news findings about certain fields. For example, if you click on a "Paralegal" link in a directory, a page may display articles showing the hiring trends in this field, the projected salaries of this field, or even the names of recruiters who are hiring in this field. Many online directories also contain links and valuable information about Government financial aid processes, such as FAFSA, so you can assess how much you'd really pay in tuition for the schools that interest you. Or, you might find information about the financial aid each school itself offers, such as scholarship and grants, and the application requirements for each type. Finally, you might also see blogs written by admissions counselors giving facts and tips or students discussing their studies, and in some cases, a live chat feature is available on online degree directories so that your questions can be answered quickly.
