You can easily take advantage of opportunities in film and television, as well as interior and fashion design, animation, photography, drawing, painting, ceramics, and much more. And with over 100 schools to choose from, you are more than likely to find the educational opportunities you want.

Attending Art School in California

If you live along the west coast, are looking to extend your education, and have an artsy flair, then you may want to consider a California art school. There are over 150 schools to chose from - definitely something for everyone. Of course, before you decide to enroll in one, you'll want to weigh your options carefully. So let's look more closely at what's available to you, so that your decision to enroll will be an informed one.

About Art Schools

There are a wide variety of schools through the state that focus significantly or primarily on the arts. Some schools, like AIU (American Intercontinental University) in Los Angeles, focus primarily on fashion and interior design, while others like the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, cover more areas in the arts. On the whole, you can choose a California art school that will focus on at least one of the following areas in the arts: graphic design and animation, fine arts, illustration, photography, visual effects, film and video production, web design, computer drafting, and game programming. You may also find schools that focus on the culinary arts. But of course, the one that you choose will need to be decided upon after conducting considerable research and determining what goals you would like to pursue.

Online Art School Options

A great bonus for some students who would like to attend a California art school, but don't feel they have the time, is the option for online schooling. There are around a dozen schools that offer either an online program, or are managed completely online. Among these schools, you have many of the same opportunities to study many facets of the arts, including fashion merchandising, web and graphic design, web development, 3D animation, and visual communication. The great benefit, of course, is being able to take your classes from the comfort of your home. This is especially helpful for individuals who work multiple jobs, or are juggling work and raising children.

Need Money?

Sometimes, the desire to attend a great California art school exceeds one's ability to pay. But some of the schools in the area offer financial assistance to students in need. For instance, the Art Institute of California in Hollywood participates in most of the federal financial aid programs. This means you may be able to take advantage of grants (Pell, SEOG, Cal), loans, (Perkins, Family Educational, PLUS, Stafford), and even work-study programs that help you pay for your education while working part-time on the campus. In order to qualify for financial assistance, you must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Of course, you can always try to compete for scholarships as well. In order to determine what scholarships are available, you must seek information at the California art school you're interested in.

If you are truly interested in studying the arts then there is most definitely a California art school ready to get you on the right track. Your job now is to get started on the research necessary to narrow down your options. That way, you'll know that the California art school you choose will be the right one for you.
