Atrributes of Offering Art in Schools

Schools offering art is a healthy option for students to consider including into their scholastic mix, even if they are not planning on majoring in it as a long term career.  The social and academic pressures students have during college are great and having art in schools as a respite can prove to be a valuable escape for them.  It's a time where insecurities can surface, important future choices are made, and temptation can flourish so students should be able to have that artistic backbone available to them.

At a time when students are away from home trying to find their social groups , trying to find themselves, art in schools can provide that opportunity to meet interesting peers.  Art provides that link with substance that can lead to genuine connections, something that may not be available at the neighborhood college bar.

Schools offering art can also be a great stress reliever.  Students have the option of working solo on their masterpiece or doing something more communal, but the point is you're away from your textbooks for a bit.  Having that opportunity to express yourself whether it be painting, photography, or drawing is a great way to decompress and get you ready for tomorrow's challenges.

And guess what?  Art in schools will save you from that dreaded predicament many students find themselves in... wasting time.  Just say no to TV, surfing the web, or shopping and say yes to the world of the arts.  What a better thing to do than to engage in an activity that stimulates you rather than a passive activity of no benefit.

Since electronics and gadgetry is something of the mod world, schools with art programs give students the opportunity to continue playing with those toys.  Digital photography, music recording, or art design software all give students the chance to use their expensive contraptions while creating their next masterpieces.

Even during down time, art classes will keep student's brain juices flowing.  Students taking the usual math and sciences will depend on the more detail-oriented, logic focused, left part of the brain.  When participating in art activities, the brain switches gears to the big picture, creative, left side.  Being able to switch back and forth between both sides of the brain gives students an advantage when trying to become well rounded individuals and essentially succeed in both worlds.

Taking art in school can also be a confidence booster.  See, most of the time students are graded on the validity of their answers during testing.  Frequent bad grades can really be detrimental to a person's self-esteem.  You're either right or wrong.  But with art there is no wrong answer.  Art is what you want it to be and can be absorbed differently by others.  Even the opportunity for others to pass judgment is something that students as creators are always in control of.  If they want their art to be private they can keep it to themselves, and if they want public input they can choose to share it.  But no matter what, hopefully students will choose the art route.
